Understanding Custom Reports: Can I use the Layer to calculate year on year growth?

Can I use the Layer to compare my year on year growth (YOY)?

Yes, using the Layer it is possible to measure the below on a year on year basis:

  • Quotation Turnover
  • Sales Order Turnover
  • Quotation Profit
  • Sales Order Profit

How can I measure this?

Using the custom report titled "Sales Order vs. Quotation Profit & Turnover Variance" users will be able to make comparisons between set periods i.e. June 2016 and June 2017.

How do I access this report?

To view the report "Sales Order vs. Quotation Profit & Turnover Variance" you will need to access the report via the custom reports section:

From the custom reports window search the word"Sales Order" and you will be able to find the report:

How to Calculate the Year-Over-Year Growth Rate:

In order to carry out some calculations based on a month and year basis you will need to divide the report into your comparison sets e.g. all order completed in June 2016 and June 2017 or all orders completed in 2016 and all orders completed in 2017.

In our example we are going to compare the profit and turnover during the month of June in 2016 and 2017, to do this follow these simple steps:

1. Total each of the following columns in your report for each year:

  • Quotation Turnover
  • Sales Order Turnover
  • Quotation Profit
  • Sales Order Profit

2. Once you have totaled the above, subtract them from the previous years total. This will give you the total difference for the year. If it's a positive it indicates a gain not a loss.

Using the calculation outlined below for Quotation Turnover we will be able to determine the year on year growth rate for Quotation Turnover. The same calculation can be applied across each of the different data sets i.e. Sales Order Turnover, Quotation Profit and Sales Order Profit.

Referring back to our totals that we calculated we can determine the following:

  • In June 2016, total Quotation Turnover was £10,100
  • In June 2017, total Quotation Turnover was £25,400

Here's how to calculate the year-over-year growth rate:

Using this same formula we can calculate the other growth rate percentages:
